The Enamel Tour

Things to know :

The urban visit is divided in 2: the uptown tour and the downtown tour. Each will take you approximatively 1 hour if you take your time to admire curiosities and read the enamelled signs. To find your way, a special “arrow” waymark has been set up.

The advice from our Tourism Office :

You can find a free map at the Tourism Office. It will help you follow the tours and give you some more information about the industrial History and its great production.

In Morez, 2 urban hiking paths tell you the History of the city regarding nails, clocks, enamel and glasses. Open to anyone, they are also accessible with strollers (only 10 steps approximatively for the uptown path).

The starting point is common to both paths: close to the Tourism Office, on “La Bienne” sidewalk. The “H” path will take you uptown and the “B” path will take you downtown.

Thanks to no less than 23 enamelled signs, you will discover the different aspects of the social and economic History of Morez, linked with its mountainous environment.
In between craft and industry, its inhabitants have developed complementary know-hows for a true metal “Culture”.

There tours will take you deep inside the city and sometimes in weird places, starting with the cemetery and its “Coeurs de Morez” (Hearts of Morez), but also in old glasses manufactories or the optical High School “Victor Berard”.
The downtown path will make you discover 2 enamelled art pieces that have been inaugurated in 2009: “Le Kaleidoscope” and “L’Email en fresque” (an enamelled fresco).
