The glasses museum in Morez, preserves and values the industrial heritage of the area of “Morez”. It tells the story of men and women who developed the industry in the valley and settled along the river workshops and factories of nails, clocks, enamel and glasses. The permanent exhibition and temporary collections will allow you to understand how the city eventually kept only the glasses manufacturing with many factories which produce around 8.5 and 12 million glasses a year.

The permanent exhibition will also teach you how the human eye works and why it is possible to trick the brain with optical illusions. The museum also has the “Essilor-Pierre Marly” collection composed of 2500 pieces from all eras and horizons. It traces the history of the “thing” glasses from 13rd century until nowadays. It also offers more by presenting productions of factories from “Morez” and glasses prototypes designed by young creators.

TEMPORARY EXHIBITIONS:

All along the year, the museum offers a varied cultural program: temporary exhibitions about the eye, optics, vision, light and color; conferences and work groups to learn everything about optics and its instruments!
